Corrections Policy
A reference site that quietly edits its mistakes is not a reference site. Errors here are fixed promptly and the fix is recorded.
Reporting an error
Use the contact form or write to [email protected]. Give the page address, quote the passage, and say what is wrong with it. A source helps and is appreciated; a well-argued objection without one is still worth sending.
Reports are acknowledged and prioritized ahead of new work.
How each kind of error is handled
| What it is | What happens |
|---|---|
| Typographical or formatting | Fixed without a note. |
| Clarification that does not change meaning | Fixed, modification date updated. |
| Factual error in a figure, standard or requirement | Fixed, with a dated correction note appended to the article stating what it said before and what it says now. |
| Error that changes the article’s conclusion | Correction note at the top of the article, and the whole piece is re-checked against its full source set. |
| A standard or tariff has been revised | Treated as an update rather than a correction: the affected passage and the modification date change, with no correction note. |
What a correction note says
A correction note names the date, the passage, the previous wording and the current wording. It does not use vague phrasing to soften what happened. If a figure was wrong, the note says the figure was wrong.
What we will not do
- Delete an article to make an error disappear.
- Remove a correction note once it has been published.
- Change accurate content because a company objects to being accurately described.
- Treat a correction request differently depending on who sent it.
Right of reply
An organization described in an article may send a statement of its position. Where the statement is relevant and the identity is verified, it will be quoted or summarized in the article. That is separate from a correction and does not require us to agree with it.
